Exhibition on Screen returns to Cinestudio with exclusive access to a sell-out 2020 exhibition at London’s Royal Academy, bringing one man’s extraordinary collection to the big-screen in glorious high-definition. In the Europe of the 1880s, Impressionism in art was considered to be radical and an insult to the conservative art world. Artists including Monet, Gaugin, Morisot, Degas, and Renoir were vilified and left penniless for their experimentation with light, color and fleeting moments of everyday life. Then, a new breed of visionary collectors appeared who battled to acquire any work by these revolutionary artists. Amongst them was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen, who amassed an incredible collection of 156 paintings at Ordrupgaard, his summer home outside of Copenhagen. From Hansen’s beautiful house and gardens at Ordrupgaard to the streets of bohemian Paris, this film takes you on a journey to discover some of the best examples of 19th-century French art ever collected.

“For the many who missed out on the Royal Academy’s 2020 exhibition owing to COVID restrictions, this film remains the finest collection of Impressionist paintings in northern Europe, no question.” Jenny Gilbert, ArtsDesk.com
