National Theatre Live

National Theater Live

Made possible by the recent installation of our top-of-the-line Ultra-High Definition Digital Cinema projection system, in 2012 Cinestudio began presenting National Theater Live. Now a part of the schedule, National Theater Live broadcasts live, High Definition performances via satellite, offering new stage productions to over 300 cinemas and art centers around the world. The performances are broadcast Thursday afternoons on the US east coast, but are often screened more conveniently on Sunday matinees to give a larger audience the experience of the best of British theater.

National Theater Live is a program of the Royal National Theater in London. The program offers both classic and new performances that represent the innovative work being done on the London stage. The goal for National Theater Live is to offer live theater to an audience who don’t traditionally go to the theatre or who are international and too far removed from live British theater. The experiment has been a roaring success. The program began in June 2009 with Racine’s Phèdre, starring Helen Mirren and thrives to this day.
