A brilliant artist’s paintings come to life through animation to suggest an alternate ending to his life: Loving Vincent is unlike any film we have shown at Cinestudio. The passion project of writer/directors Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman is the work of 125 artists in Poland who produced 62,450 oil paintings to animate the stars, flowers, and people in Van Gogh’s masterpieces. The spectacular vision it creates is best appreciated on the big screen, where viewers say they feel as if they have fallen headlong into the swirling color and beauty of Van Gogh’s world. The story takes place after the painter’s death, as a young man from his village tries to unravel the mystery of a man who loved life, but chose death. 94 min
“the world’s first fully oil-painted animated feature film is a stunning achievement and a marvel to behold.” Ramin Zahed, Animation Magazine.
