The final film in this year’s April in Paris Festival is a Hartford premiere, The newest film by critically acclaimed director Léa Pool is a story of a troubled 14-year-old growing up in working class Montréal (the luminous Sophie Nélisse), who is angry with her mother for kicking out her Algerian stepfather. When a 20-something musician named Baz (Jean-Simon Leduc) offers friendship, she mistakes his kindness for love, as only a young teenager can. The conflicting bonds of family, culture, and love are beautifully interwoven in the hands of a groundbreaking (female) filmmaker. Women in Film and Television Artistic Merit Award, Vancouver Film Festival.
