BARAKA

Director: Ron Fricke

1992, 96

Join us for Cinestudio’s annual screening of Baraka, the unique film that has become Hartford’s alternative holiday tradition. Director/photographer Ron Fricke traveled six continents and 24 countries to capture mesmerizing images of life on our earth, shot in in ToddAO 70mm. With Cinestudio’s crystal clear sound and images, you will fully experience the multiplicity of spiritual expression, from chanting Buddhist monks, Jews praying at the Wailing Wall, African tribal dancers to hypnotic Dervishes. The destructive side of humanity is on display in places like Auschwitz and burning oil fields. Like no other film, with dialogue or without, “Baraka is a journey of rediscovery that plunges into nature, into history, into the human spirit and finally into the realm of the infinite.” – Ron Fricke.

Music by Michael Stearns, Dead Can Dance, David Hykes/The Harmonic Choir, Somet Satoh, Anugama & Sebastiano, Kohachiro Miyata, Monks of the Dip Tse Chok Ling Monastery, the Rustavi Choir, and more.
