The wind-swept Yorkshire moors have been the setting for some of the most passionate love stories ever written. But don’t tell that to a lonely shepherd (Joseph O’Connor of Florence Foster Jenkins and TV’s Peaky Blinders) whose bleak days living with his father and grandmother are only interrupted by anonymous hookups with men in the back of vans. But when his father hires a gentle Romanian immigrant (Alec Secareanu) to help with the lambing, the repressed Englishman discovers that tenderness, sensuality and even love may be a part of his birthright. The brooding landscape comes alive with a hypnotic score by the American ambient duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen. 104 min.

Presented by CT OutFilm’s Second Thursday series. “God’s Own Country is not an exercise in miserabilism: it does not believe that love or adventures of the heart are doomed. Not at all.” – Peter Bradshaw, the Guardian.
