Sitting near the top of many critics’ Top Ten lists for 2019 (and a likely candidate for some acting Oscars), the new film by Noah Baumbach is an indelible portrait of modern divorce. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver are a young golden couple, living an envious life in Park Slope, with jobs in the arts and a 10-year-old-son. Driver, who narrates the first part of the film, is shocked by his wife’s decision to move to Los Angeles to take a role in a TV show. When we hear Johansson’s side of the story, it’s more logical than crazy, and the destruction of their life together is kicked into high gear by lawyers played by a fierce Laura Dern, and a cutthroat Ray Liotta.
