Although it hasn’t gotten the wide distribution in the States that it deserves, Honduras’ first official entry to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film is a fascinating documentary on events that shaped the current state of the Americas. In 1842 Costa Rica, Francisco Morazán was serving as the Head of State of Costa Rica, attempting to unite the Central America in a Republic, not so unlike his neighbors to the north. But the forces against him – the Catholic Church and the wealthy elite- conspired with the army to overthrow his power. A certified hit in Honduras, Morazán is not only a thrilling, re-claimed piece of the past: it gives viewers some much- needed background to Central America’s history and the so-called ‘immigration crisis.’
“Ambitious and powerful – the ephemeral dream of a united Central America.” – J H Bográn, Yale Global online.
