Veteran actor Riccardo Scamarcio and up-and-coming star Benedetta Porcaroli feature in a love story set during the brutal fascism regime. Scamarcio is a World War I veteran who hires a young woman (Porcaroli) as a waitress in his restaurant. As racial laws are enacted, danger comes from every direction – for the young woman with a secret, as well as the man they are hiding in the basement. The resonance with Europe’s flirtation with modern-day fascism can be felt in every scene.
